Brown Residence
The house for this family of four was designed in concert with the natural qualities of its suburban site.  Open living and dining areas are informally organized within the same large, vaulted volume and are separated by a massive brick fireplace.  Large window walls serve to connect the main interior living spaces directly to an exterior brick terrace.  The L-shaped house wraps around the brick terrace and steps down with the natural contours of the land.  The house’s single room depth and the strategic placement of windows allow the owners to take advantage of natural, cross ventilation.  Indigenous, cypress siding and trim on the exterior is combined with natural finished wood trim and details throughout the interior to create a comfortable environment.
