Jackson State University
FD Hall - ADA Compliance
accordance with Federal and State Law, Jackson State University is
updating many of its facilities to comply with the American with
Disabilities Act. This project required an extensive assessment of
existing conditions throughout this 53,000 s.f. academic building and
subsequent evaluations of appropriate design solutions to make it
accessible to everyone.
Compliance with the ADA Standards for
Accessible Design was achieved by completely renovating stairs and
stairwells, restrooms, classrooms, sidewalks, ramps and entrances.
Doors were refinished or replaced along with non-compliant hardware.
Handrails were replaced and two new handicap seating areas were added
to the recital hall. Upgrades to signage, lighting, mechanical, fire
alarm and security systems were included in the total compliance
