Port Gibson Middle School Cafeteria
In association with William A. Easom, AIA

With existing buildings all grouped tightly in one corner of the site and with part of the site in a flood plain, careful placement of the new cafeteria was crucial to the success of the project.  In order to respect the original school building (constructed in 1926) while defining  an exterior space, the new cafeteria was sited in front and to the side, facing an existing open area.  This design helped the school address several campus planning issues, such as parking and circulation.  The cafeteria’s brickwork and cast stone parapet caps recall the materials and details of the original school and add to a beautiful new enterance from the parking lot.
